Beach-side restaurant turning wedding venue

Stunning views of the ocean and a catering menu to impress all guests made this couple's wedding perfect. Couple: Ashley & Jacob Location: Seacliff Restaurant, Wollongong In 2007, Ashley was training for the Endurance Surf Life Saving event and was swimming regularly. Meetings at the pool led to coffees between university classes and the rest is history. Jacob proposed in Port Macquarie at the Cassegrain Winery, the day after they had both completed the Ironman Australia Triathlon. “One day it seemed like the wedding was months away and the next day it was here,” says Ashley. And for this excited bride, an unexpected hurdle arose at the last minute. “The wedding day started off a bit differently as I had woken up with a stomach bug and was finding it difficult to move, let alone get into my wedding dress! However, a panicked trip to the medical centre and some medication and observation got me back to normal functioning. Add hair and makeup and I was feeling like a bride.” Dressed in a Mori Lee strapless ball gown wedding dress with Swarovski crystal embellishments, from Sposabella Bridal Fairy Meadow, Ashley walked down the aisle of the St Francis Xavier Cathedral, Wollongong, to “Canon in D Major” by Pachelbel. The happy couple’s 140 guests then moved to the Seacliff Restaurant, Wollongong, where they feasted on canapés of barramundi and oysters followed by Cajun spiced salmon filet with Cajun spices and brandy butter served with fennel and potato galette or roasted herb-crusted veal cutlet served with a mushroom cream sauce at the reception. Bride's Advice: “Plan and prepare early so that you can relax and enjoy the day. Trust your suppliers and reception venue and try not to overthink the preparation too much as it is very easy to get caught up and stressed over minor details. When the day arrives, let go of the preparation and organisation and enjoy it no matter what happens.”

Traditional Wedding In a Contemporary Location

White with a coral splash gave this traditional wedding a summery feel. Couple: Michelle and David Location: Bella Portofino, Wollongong The bride walked down the aisle at the couple's traditional Macedonian wedding wearing a Demetrios gown from Brides of Francesca made from very soft tulle. It was A-Line in white strapless with a sweetheart neckline, simple bodice with a beaded, jewel-encrusted belt. The hot day didn't put a dampener on the amazing reception at Bella Portofino. The couple's 300 guests were treated to a night of dancing and a gorgeous menu of antipasto, seafood platters, canelloni and tortellini, a melt-in-your-mouth eye fillet and Mediterrenean-style chicken. Dessert was a choice of strawberry delice topped with Frangelico cream and shaved chocolate or white chocolate cheesecake with drunken berries. Bride's advice: I was a very relaxed bride but organised. Ask for advice and let your families help. Stick to a budget and save money where you can.

  • It's an outdoor wedding with a roof over your head, ie, weatherproof
  • If you know a friendly farmer, it's an outdoor wedding on a budget
  • It's more accessible than the outdoor wedding beach destination (for a lot of people) The only thing that you'll need to ensure is that there is a great electricity supply to your outdoor wedding barn and that it's free of tractors and farming implements.
