How to Add Vintage Touches to Your Wedding

A misty day in the Blue Mountains made for a magical vintage-themed wedding for Jodie and her husband Peter. Couple: Jodie & Peter Location: Yester Grange, Blue Mountains Jodie and Peter went to the same high school and were good friends, but it wasn’t until they were in their mid-20s that “something clicked”. After five years together, Peter proposed in dramatic fashion — on a glacier in New Zealand only accessible by helicopter, as a violinist played in the background. Having grown up in the country and with a love of the outdoors, Jodie and Peter decided the Blue Mountains would be the ideal wedding location. The couple loved the area so much that — soon after booking the wedding — they relocated there entirely. Inspired by Jodie’s champagne diamond and white- and rose-gold engagement ring, the couple chose an ivory and champagne colour scheme with a vintage feel. The historic homestead of Yester Grange, where both the ceremony and cocktail reception were held for 100 guests, had an antique-style interior enhanced with vintage DIY elements — tiered cake stands for the dessert table, a family heirloom hat box for the bomboniere, and, of course, Jodie’s lace gown by designer Wtoo from Heavenly Collections. To keep wedding preparation stress to a minimum and to incorporate the bride’s and groom’s needs, many traditions were relaxed. Jodie had two bridesmaids (her sisters), whereas Peter had several “best men”. The bridesmaids were free to find their own outfits according to the wedding colours, and the boys were simply told to dress in monochrome. “It took the hassle out of organising the wedding party, and cut down on costs for everyone,” says Jodie. Bride's Advice: “Make sure you choose a venue option that’s as good in wet weather as it is on a clear day — that way you won’t be disappointed if it rains. And learn how to be in the moment; you want to soak up every second as it happens.”

Vintage Inspiration for Your Wedding

Simplicity and elegance were the key words that guided Kylie and Christopher to the altar Couple: Kylie & Christopher Location: Royal Automobile Club of Australia, Sydney Kylie and Christopher first met when working together behind a bar as students. They became instant friends and the relationship blossomed into a romance spanning 11 years. Christopher popped the question in the couple’s inner-city apartment with an engagement ring that he had personally designed. Following a sweet ceremony at St Therese Catholic Church, the newlyweds and 70 guests celebrated with a vintage inspired reception at the Royal Automobile Club. “Nine years ago we attended a ball at the Royal Automobile Club and loved the vintage feel, joking that we should get married there if we decided to tie the knot,” says the bride. The couple’s first dance took place under the gleaming chandelier of the Victoria Room, with the room decorated in a vintage theme of whites, creams, and pinks. The bride wore an exquisite made-to-order gown from Amira Bridal. The liquid silk-satin dress was adorned with French lace and hand-made locally. Bride's Advice: “If something doesn’t go exactly to plan, let it go. More than likely you are the only one who has noticed it.”

Extend the Vintage Theme to your Dessert Table

This beautiful vintage wedding featured modern touches, reflecting the couple’s own style Couple: Katherine & Andrew Location: Maia, Docklands The bride was dazzling in a classic vintage gown by Raffaele Ciuca. The fitted design featured a deep v-neck and drop-waist, creating a stunning silhouette. To complete the look, Katherine was adorned with antique-style accessories, including an ornate vintage brooch and a matching headpiece. The bridesmaids were also glowing on the day, wearing silk Georgette Gowns by Harvey & Ella, making them a chic match for the dapper groomsmen. The reception was held at Maia, a modern yet historical venue overlooking the water. With hand-etched wooden floorboards and a shipping crate inspired bar, the venue had an industrial feel. The addition of elegant details such as cathedral-style ceilings and a mirror-tiled wall complemented the rustic interior, giving this wedding a chic and edgy backdrop. In addition to a three-tier cake, the couple surprised their guests with a sweet station and lolly buffet. Glowing in the candlelight was an array of glasses, vases and bell jars overflowing with heavenly sweets, including piles of macarons in shades of pink.
