A Wedding Inspired by a Gown

Upon finding the perfect dress, this couple knew exactly how to theme and plan their wedding Couple: Ana & Garth Location: Harbourview Function Centre, Newcastle Three years after meeting through mutual friends, Garth proposed to Ana in the rose petal-covered hallway of their home, with a diamond ring in hand and on bended knee. The couple wanted a funky and elegant theme, but it wasn’t until Ana chose her wedding dress by Designs by Melanie Ford that she hit on the idea. “I chose my dress first and we themed the rest of the wedding designs and colours around that,” says Ana. The ivory dupion silk and lace gown featured a strapless bodice, heavily detailed with organza flowers. A thin waistband was finished with a side bow, fl owing down to a delicate tulle skirt. The bridesmaids’ dresses were by the same designer, featuring a black-lace top and an ivory dupion silk skirt. At the couple’s reception at Harbourview in Newcastle, the priority was to have fun. “We got the formalities out of the way early on, leaving us plenty of time for dancing and mingling,” says Ana. The newlyweds and their 106 guests danced to English and Albanian (Ana’s background) music and left with jars filled with boiled lollies. Bride's Advice: “You set the tone for your guests on the day, so if you want people up and dancing, then get on the dance floor yourself.”
