Social media is an amazing tool to share memories with friends and family that aren't by your side. They say a picture lasts a lifetime, but sometimes the long lasting aspect of a wedding isn't the images, but the feelings being celebrated. And your mobile phone doesn't have feelings.
The 'unplugged' wedding is becoming hugely popular for couples hoping to keep their ceremony intimate and private. Yes, they still hire a professional photographer and even maybe a videographer, but there aren't so many hands waving in the area hoping to grab that A+ 'gram.
“It wasn’t so much about secrecy,” says Brock Collection codesigner Laura Vassar about the Instaban at her Newport Beach wedding. “I wanted to see laughing and chatting and dancing—not the screens of people’s iPhones!”
Couples are even going so far as to erect signs at the entrance that tell guests to turn their phones off, or confiscating them all together. Just know that if someone has gone to the effort of inviting you to their big day, they want you to be fully present at it.
So stop messaging, and start marrying.
