We take a look at your options and why an out-of-town wedding may work for you

Sydney’s vibrant environment and majestic skyline can play host to a spectacular wedding, however some couples opt to have their big day out of town and take advantage of the peace and quiet of the countryside. Some couples may choose to stay in Sydney for their guests’ convenience but many are becoming more open-minded about having local destination or ‘staycation’ weddings.

“Some brides seek peaceful surroundings, natural settings and to infuse the wedding theme with their own down-to-earth personal touches,” says Lee Cass from event coordination company Lenore K. “In contrast, the city can be a reminder of work, noisy streets, polluting traffic and skyscrapers — I dare say, not the Mills and Boon
touch for some!”

Other factors encouraging couples to move out of the city are venue and accommodation availabilities and costs. Some reputable wedding premises can be booked up to two to three years in advance during peak wedding season (spring), which may cause some couples who don’t want to wait to get married to opt for a venue outside of Sydney.

Outer-Sydney and regional accommodation and wedding packages can be better value for those on a tight budget, which enables couples to realise their dream wedding at a fraction of what it would cost in the city. Instead of having a ceremony in the city and then transporting the bridal party and guests to a reception venue, beyond Sydney there are countless all-in-one venues where there is space for every element of your day. This reduces cost and could be an easier option for elderly guests or those with young children.

There is a wonderful range of venues and suppliers within easy distance of Sydney — from the peaceful greenery of the Hunter Valley and Blue Mountains, through to the beautiful beaches of Wollongong.

Whether you choose to have your big day in the heart of Sydney or in outback NSW, your venue should be where you will feel most comfortable and one which suits your style.
