Make your honeymoon a memorable time for you and your beau with a mix of romantic and fun activities

After the stress and excitement of planning and holding your wedding, a relaxing honeymoon with lazy mornings and relaxing days on the beach may sound like paradise. But don’t let your honeymoon pass you by. Here’s a list of fun and romantic activities to ensure you return home with fantastic memories as well.

Tropical destinations dominate most honeymoon location lists; from Hawaii to Fiji and Tahiti, relaxing in a beachside
paradise is a popular choice. Many of these destinations feature some of the best and most beautiful underwater scenery in the world. Snorkelling around a tropical reef is always good fun, but for a really memorable day, splash out on a scuba diving tour. Instructors will take you to the best amateur diving spots, give you a lesson on using the equipment and keep an eye on you as you explore. Some tour operators even take underwater photographs, providing unique and priceless mementos.

Luxury is a top priority for many honeymooning couples and you’ll find wonderful spa facilities around most honeymoon locations, sometimes even built into the resorts. What better way to start off married life than with a bit of pampering and relaxation? Opt for couple’s treatments such as massages or facials or laze away the afternoon in a spa.

Get some fresh air and exercise by exploring your destination’s natural beauty. Find out the most popular local tracks and check the fi tness level required. Adventuring couples might like to trek the local mountains or explore the local rainforests; others may enjoy a beachside stroll or guided walks to local landmarks. Check if there are places to hire bicycles or take a lesson in rock climbing or abseiling with a local professional.

Ride off into the sunset with your new love! Horse-riding experiences and packages are offered by many resorts and hotels. For a supremely romantic experience, plan a sunset ride with an accompanying candlelit picnic dinner.

Floating serenely in a hot-air balloon is a popular activity for proposals, but who says married couples can’t enjoy it just as much? You will probably have to get up early, but many packages include breakfast and you’ll get to see your honeymoon destinations in a totally different way.

Try your hand at surfi ng, body boarding, waterskiing, jet-skiing, parasailing or windsurfing. Many beachside resorts have the equipment and instructors for these activities available for use at any time.

Another adventurous activity is the thrill of white-water rafting for a rush of adrenaline. More mellow alternatives include canoeing and kayaking, where you can float and explore to your heart’s content, or a luxury afternoon on a yacht or speedboat.

Get in touch with nature. Ride an elephant in Thailand or Indonesia, or visit nature parks to meet cuddly baby orangutans and endangered tigers. Some island resorts in places such as Bora Bora offer experiences with their turtle protection programs, as well as shark- and stingray-feeding experiences and glass-bottomed boat tours.

Not just for children, theme and adventure parks offer thrills and excitement to honeymooning couples — from towering rollercoasters and entertaining shows to refreshing water slides.

Explore the romantic gardens at a winery or indulge in a decadent dinner-and-a-show package. If you’re heading somewhere with unique cultural cuisines, look for gastronomic delights in the local produce and restaurants. Don’t be afraid to try something different.
