Ten Wedding Mistakes Modern Brides Are Making

Try and avoid the common mistakes modern brides make when it comes to planning their big day.

  1. Spending all your money
You want the wedding of your dreams, right? Well, good news: it doesn't have to send you broke. In fact, a wedding shouldn't send you broke. Set a budget early on and promise yourself you won’t go a cent over.
  2. Hiring a professional
Wedding planners can take a load of stress off the planning process, but is it really your wedding when you haven't planned it yourself? It only takes a couple of hours a week to get everything organised.
  3. Spending too long online
The internet is full of wonderful wedding inspiration, but it can sometimes lead to over-consumption. Limit the time you spend researching the perfect wedding and focus on the theme you know you want. Narrow down decisions based on what you want, and not what everyone else has.
  4. Expecting the day to be perfect
No matter how many times you review your to-do list and make sure everything is running smoothly, things will go wrong and when they do, it’s important to stay calm and remember that the day will be perfect if you just relax and enjoy yourself.
  5. Making decisions right away
Take a couple of weeks to celebrate the engagement before you go rushing in to the wedding planning. Take your time, do your research and meet with vendors before finalising anything.
  6. Getting too social
Want your wedding splashed across social media? Don't focus on doing that yourself, leave it up to your guests to do.
  7. Following outdated traditions
Your wedding should be all you. If you want to stick to old-school traditions, great! But there's no need to in the modern age of weddings.
  8. Not being money-savvy
Consider buying a used dress or even borrowing recycled wedding decorations to save money. No one's going to know unless you tell them.
  9. Letting too many people get involved
Everyone has an opinion, especially when it comes to planning your big day. The only opinion that matters when you're planning your wedding is your own.
  10. Forgetting to have fun
It's easy to get caught up in the stress and management of a wedding. But it's your day to celebrate so kick your heels off and have a good time.
