Six Reasons To Choose Hawaii For Your Honeymoon

Hawaii has always been a popular honeymoon destination for Australians, and there are six very good reasons why.

If you’re still deciding where to go for relaxation after your big day, you can’t go wrong with Hawaii. Not only does this US state have the most incredible and unique beaches in the world, there are also six islands to choose from — and they are suited to all types of couples.

If you are looking for adventure, head to the Big Island and tackle its volcanoes. If you prefer to relax, go snorkelling and whale watching in Maui or Molokai. Looking for bargains? Waikiki on Oahu will be the best spots for you. If you’re looking for a great place to hike and take in Hawaii’s natural beauty, visit the sweet, almost untouched islands of Lanai and Kauai.

The island of Oahu is the heart of Hawaii. It provides tourists with the best of everything — stunning natural wonders, glitzy shopping malls and beautiful clear water. Waikiki is the hub of Oahu and the beachside strip, Kalakua Avenue, features many of the highend hotels and American-style restaurants that are popular with travellers.

If you’re planning to stay in Waikiki, you can’t go past the Moana Surfrider Hotel. Known as the first lady of Waikiki, this magnificent resort has gorgeous rooms, a relaxing ambience and is set right on the beach. Nothing beats watching a Hawaiian sunset over the water, sipping a Mai Tai, at the hotel’s famous Beach Bar. If the bright lights of Waikiki are not your thing, hire a car and head north. The North Shore of Oahu is not only relaxing, it’s also the best place to watch professional surfers take on the big waves at Pipeline. If you don’t yet know the sign for “hang loose”, you will certainly learn it here! The main hotel on the North Shore is Turtle Bay Resort, but you can also stay at many of the bed and breakfasts or motels dotted around the area. Here you will find the more organic and down-to-earth culture of Hawaii, where the majority of locals surf, chill out and eat from the famous mobile shrimp trucks.

Top Tip!

With six islands to explore, you will need to plan your trip down to the last detail. By doing some research in advance you will make sure you are not left wondering why you didn’t make it to Pearl Harbour or why you ended up spending every day at the Ala Moana Center. Hawaii Tourism ( has some great tips and information on each of the islands to make planning a breeze.
