Real Wedding: An Outback Wedding Adventure

A fun and relaxed wedding day inspired by the couple’s love for the Australian landscape.

ROAD TRIP

Wade and Sarah’s fi ve-year relationship has been full of adventure. The couple met through mutual
friends and very quickly became best friends. They have since never looked back. They went on a six-month road trip around Australia together, which was when their mutual love, respect and friendship truly became apparent. Wade proposed to Sarah while watching the sunset from a beach in Perth, and they knew straight away that their wedding would be the perfect opportunity to show their closest friends and family just one part of the outback that brought them closer together.

DESTINATION DILEMMA

Before booking their destination wedding at Uluru, Sarah and Wade both called their closest friends and family to see if they would be able to attend. “After such a positive reaction from everyone, we knew that we had made the right decision. The difficult part was that the cost per person meant limiting our guest list strictly to 50 people,” says Sarah. The venue also limited the number of guests but, to make up for this, Wade and Sarah threw a large engagement party to celebrate with everyone together.

ODE TO AUSTRALIA

Sarah and Wade say that the venue chose the theme for them: it had a focus on outback Australia, to reflect the couple’s love for the country’s natural wonders. “Our wedding was always going to be very ‘us’ and we are a very relaxed, fun-loving and outdoorsy couple,” says Sarah.

WHATEVER THE WEATHER

With an average of only three days of rain during May at Uluru, Sarah and Wade didn’t think twice about their decision to have an outdoor ceremony. They were going to get married in the red dirt that characterises central Australia with the majestic Uluru as the backdrop. Our guests would then watch the sunset over Uluru before making their way down a path to the award-winning Sounds of Silence dinner under the stars. Sarah says Mother Nature had other plans.

“Wade and our guests were taken out to the ceremony site and stepped off the coach to be met by a sudden downpour of rain. My father and I made it halfway down the aisle but the rain was just too heavy and our guests were quickly becoming very wet. We turned around before I was able to see my future husband and headed back to the resort. While our guests were also returning to the comfort of the resort, my dad and I were hosing bucket loads of red mud from my dress!” They then had to accept plan B: having the ceremony and reception indoors at Sails in the Desert Hotel at the Ayers Rock Resort. “Everyone had a wonderful night. While it was not the wedding we had hoped and planned for, it was still the wedding of my dreams, because in my dreams all I ever wanted was to marry my best friend with all my friends and family there to celebrate,” says Sarah.

BRIDE’S ADVICE

“We place so much importance on every little detail of the day when all that really matters is celebrating the love that two people share. Relax, enjoy your day and don’t sweat the small stuff!”
