Liz and Chris wed in an intimate gathering among beautiful jacaranda trees

SUMMER LOVING Liz and Chris met on the beach and fell in love over the summer. “Just think swimming, surfi ng and long, lazy summer days ... bliss,” recalls Liz. Chris proposed some time later in Cape Town, South Africa. “We packed a picnic and climbed out to sit on the huge granite boulders that rise out of the ocean in Cape Town. Chris had been waiting for the perfect moment and this was it. I didn’t know the proposal was coming so it was a huge surprise ... but I said yes straight away!” says Liz.

ANTIQUE LACE The couple were married at St Thomas’ Anglican Church in North Sydney, with the bride wearing a gorgeous Helen English gown. The back was cut low and trimmed with an antique French gold lace to provide an almost sheer cover. The skirt was pulled in slightly at the knee to complete the silhouette. “The crowning glory was my Helen English mantilla veil made from the most delicate silk tulle adorned with French lace that allowed me to wear my hair down and free,” says Liz. The ceremony was inspired by the old-world glamour reminiscent of classic Italian films. “We liked the idea of our wedding being a traditional event in a grand old church, followed by a beautiful celebration with merry friends and family,” says Liz. “We chose our date so we could be married when the jacaranda petals fall — the soft lilac background gave a natural romance to our photos.”

INTIMATE GATHERING The reception was held at the heritage-listed Athol Hall in Bradleys Head, which features a beautiful view of Sydney Harbour. Guests feasted on entrées of asparagus with fig and king prawns; mains of roast chicken breast and pasture-fed roast beef; and martini-glasses of sorbet for dessert — perfect for a warm summer night. “We were beaming the whole day!” says Liz. “We simply couldn’t stop smiling and it felt like everyone was sharing in our love. It couldn’t have been better. We still look back and smile. Friends and family had flown from all over the world to be with us and we were so humbled to have them there sharing our special day. We had never been so happy.”

BRIDE’S ADVICE “Do not let the process of organising a wedding take over the meaning of the day. It’s about love and celebration. If you keep that in mind, you will have the best day of your life.”
