Their ideas and designs inspire us, influencing what we wear and buy. Complete Wedding talks with three noteworthy designers about where they draw their inspiration from

Jewellery designer for Tiffany and Co.

What does jewellery design mean to you?
Everything is related because the purity of lines and proper forms are timeless; no one invented them. With my jewellery I express myself, the way I am and what I feel about my surroundings. I like to eliminate the excess of detail to arrive at the maximum purity of each piece.

Can you describe your design process?
I don’t like being rushed in my work. I am slow because I review my designs many times until I am completely sure that each line which gives the shape creates something that lasts forever.

Where do you do most of your designing?
Wherever I am I take notes, I go through the entire process in my head, I speak with the people involved, we decide about production, then I get started with the real shape.

What inspires you?
My inspiration is like a flash which I later have to give shape to, so it’s important that I follow my instincts. But there is something very present in my work, and that is my sense of touch. To touch and feel each object is the essence of what I do.

What attracted you to use sterling silver as a key material for your designs?
The colour, the possibility to make bigger things with less weight, the price and — being a brunette a long time ago, now a gray-haired woman — silver goes well with me. It’s a material I adore.
