Collaborators Palazzo Versace

Palazzo Versace, on the Gold Coast, is an ideal location for a 'mini-moon' - luxurious, within Australia, and fine dining fit for foodies.

It's worth it just for the steak. Sure, the opulence is nice; as we are ushered in to the Le Jardin lobby bar there's a three piece band playing smooth jazz, surrounded by bold Versace print furnishings. The lobby is crowned by an enormous chandelier. Not just any chandelier either - it's an antique that once hung in Milan's state library and was bought by Gianni Versace himself, with over 1000 crystals and weighing 750kg.

Palazzo Versace opened in 2000, the first fully fashion-branded hotel in the world. It has 200 suites and a private 65-metre lagoon, not to mention a design rich with marble, mosaics and a private marina.

Popular Surfers Paradise on the Gold Coast is full of backpackers and tourists, and mostly reflects the demographic. Next door to the hotel is Marina Mirage, a peaceful shopping centre with high end brands such as Carla Zampatti, Charlie Brown and Hermes, as well as some excellent independent boutiques.

The beach is only about 100 metres away from the hotel. The hotel itself is a wonderful spot for honeymooners - and there's every reason to simply stay there for your entire holiday. If you get tired of relaxing by the lagoon, you can enoy their seasonal poolside dining pacakges, open-air cinema and cooking master classes with executive chef Geoff Haviland. Failing that, you can take advantage of the Aurora Spa Retreat or eat your way through the three restaurants.

Their leading restaurant, Vanitas, is is known for head-chef's technically brilliant modern Australian food with a touch of Asian influence. There's also the sleekly style Vie resturant, with simple but flavourful food using locally sourced ingredients where possible. The menu changes regularly and has great vegetarian options. They have execellent meals, such as summery linguine with shavings of zuchinni, ricotta and mint; a butter-soft ages Tasmanian sirloin with beetroot, horseradish and a side of velvety pureed potatoes; or a thick chocolate hazelnut crostata for dessert. Enjoy their exquisite service as you gaze over the marina.

To stay at the hotel, prices range from $829 for $2829 per night. For that you are staying ina  world class venue said to visited by the likes of Paris Hilton, Snoop Dogg, Beyonce and Jay Z. Then there are the little extra luxuries like personal butler service, in-house florist and pillow menu. But the fine-dining is a holiday in itself.
