Real Wedding: Rainforest Magic

Local Indian food and music made this incredible destination wedding in India all the more magical.

Talia, a dancer, and Jonathan, an actor, had been together for just over six years when they got engaged. “Jonathan had been shooting a movie in Utah and I went to visit him when I had some time off. He had planned a snow-mobile tour in Park City with a guide. At the top of one of the peaks, with the most incredible view, we got off to take photos. Jono began playing my favourite song at the time ‘Dog Days are Over’ by Florence and the Machine, and got down on one knee and proposed. It was so cold, my fingers immediately went numb from taking my gloves off. The guide had to give me heated pads so I could get some feeling back! We then continued on to a bar in Park City that has a rooftop hot tub that overlooks the city and is covered in snow. It was unforgettable,” says Talia.

Jonathan and Talia got married at Taj Safari’s Pashan Garh resort, tucked away in the outskirts of the national
parks in Madhya Pradesh, India, and assisted by &Beyond tours. They invited 40 guests, who flew in from around the world for their multicultural celebration. “We wanted to stay true to our surroundings. We fused my religion with the country’s traditions, which led us to having a spectacular Jewish-Indian wedding. One of our favourite Indian traditions was sitting around the day before our wedding with our family and friends painting pots that would become our decorations for the ceremony,” says Talia.

Talia wore a gown by Sonia Cappellazzo adorned simply with her engagement ring and diamond stud earrings, while her legs were decorated with henna. They didn’t have bridesmaids or groomsmen but Talia’s nephew
Abie was a gorgeous pageboy. “It was magical. I have so many wonderful memories, including me being carried to our ceremony in a palanquin and Jonathan on a ceremonially-dressed horse with the Indian jungle as our backdrop. The ambience was created by beautiful Indian sitar music. It really surpassed anything we could have imagined.”

They began their ceremony at dusk in a jungle clearing under a yellow and orange marigold canopy, then returned to Pashan Garh by safari Jeeps for cocktails by the pool. An amazing Thali dinner comprising local Indian cuisine was served in the dining room with dishes such as Channa Chaat salad, Achari Paneer Tikka and Gulkand Tart. “It was the most incredible and other-worldly experience we’ve ever had. It was wonderful to be able to share this once-in-a-lifetime experience with our family and special friends.”

“Your wedding should be a representation of you and your partner. Don’t be too swayed by what other people want for your day, stay true to your vision and the things that excite you both.”
