The Central Coast has long been a popular holiday destination for Australian families — and with good reason.
Not only is it a swift one-hour drive from Sydney, but the region also marries the beauty of nature with the vibrancy of the city, from spectacular bushland to lively festivals rich with colour and community spirit. With no shortage of local entertainment, firstclass venues and stunning scenery, the Central Coast is a perfect location to host your wedding.
Add a touch of nature to your special day at Noonaweena, a 100-acre conference and function centre perfect for those wanting a wedding amid the raw beauty of the Australian bush. Perched on the ledge of a valley overlooking the Yengo National Park, Noonaweena offers breathtaking views of the bushland that can be found nowhere else, making it one of the more unique wedding locations in the region.
Also on offer, and just as special, the Heritagelisted The Entrance Lake House is a restaurant and wedding reception venue that features a unique interior of high, ornate ceilings, bay windows and original polished floorboards. If that’s not enough to draw your interest, the house also offers panoramic views of beautiful Tuggerah Lake.
After something a bit more rustic? Fernbank Farm is arguably one of the Central Coast’s most serene venues for outdoor weddings. Nothing says romance quite like horse-drawn carriages, a cosy Heritage-listed homestead and 25 acres of manicured lawns, rural bushland and rolling green hills. Be it a wedding ceremony by the idyllic lake or in a marquee tent amid the gardens, Fernbank Farm promises a picturesque paddock wedding.
One of the Central Coast’s most popular tourist attractions, there is plenty to do at Avoca Beach — aside, of course, from the sun, sand and surf! Held on the fourth Sunday of each month, the Avoca Beachside Markets features more than 100 stalls offering a range of products from locally produced art and jewellery to international cuisine. Meanwhile, the quaint family-run Avoca Beach Picture Theatre offers the best blockbuster, foreign and art-house films.
Even a glimpse of these majestic creatures is enough to get the heart pumping, and the Central Coast has several locations that are renowned for whale sightings. Held from June to November, whale watching tours are organised by both Central Coast Charters and Nova Cruises.
Food, drink and live music — there is little not to love about festivals, and the Central Coast hosts plenty of them year-round! Upcoming events for 2015 include the open-air festival Opera in the Arboretum, to be held in March; the Whale Dreamers Festival, July; and the Central Coast Country Musical Festival, November.
