The touch of a hand, the reaction to a surprise gift, a sudden surge of emotion — these are the spontaneous moments which result in some of the most treasured wedding photos.

The real first dance
“This photo came about as I often get my bride and groom to practise their wedding dance for me to help them relax and get lost in the moment. This couple were in fits of giggles as they sunk into the sand while trying to get their dance right. It was such a memorable moment.” — Photographer Kate Ellis,

Puppy love
“This shot was taken early in the morning and our photographer captured a bemused animal during the preparation. I think the way the dog is dressed in particular, together with the flowergirls in the background and the bride wearing her slippers, completes the story. It is from the wedding of Chris & Christine in January” — Elias from Eclipse Studios

Bouquet blunder
“At Ying and Aron’s wedding, the bride threw her bouquet to all the ‘single ladies’ and this chap thought he’d get in on the action. He caught the bouquet and proceeded to squeal for approximately 10 minutes as if he had won Lotto. I love the image because it’s so funny and quirky. The expression on the guy’s face is just priceless!” — Robert Lum from Studio RL Photography

When love shines through
“This was taken at Vicky and Rick’s wedding when things were not going smoothly. The band hasn’t shown up, the venue is trying to organise music at the last minute, wedding guests are already arriving and the poor groom is looking very defeated. I love this photo because the bride can see the funny side of things and instead of being a bridezilla, she was quite supportive and loving towards her new hubby. That tender sweet moment is very reflective of that couple.” — Robert Lum from Studio RL Photography

Feeling the emotion
“I don’t think the bridesmaid noticed I was actually in the room as I popped in briefl y to check out what was going on, so I think this helped the emotion to fl ow. Once the bride was getting closer to wearing her stunning gown, the reality hit her bridesmaid that her very best friend would soon be walking down the aisle. The couple are Adriana and Harry, married in November.” — Elias from Eclipse Studios
