The Perfect Pre Wedding Facial

New developments in non-surgical cosmetic procedures freshens the complexion, not just for the big day, but for the long term (think non-stop honeymoon glow)

In the past, brides have used makeup to give the illusion of increased facial volume and to cover skin pigment, imperfections and wrinkles. New technologies in the cosmetic procedure industry can correct these concerns with individually tailored treatments. Making the most of these treatments means that brides don’t need to rely on make-up to achieve a natural, radiant glow and will look more beautiful naturally on their big day and beyond.

Sean Ardense, cosmetic physician at Flawless Skin Rejuvenation Clinic in Melbourne has seen a rise in bridal clients in recent years, with about 35 per cent of the clinic’s clients being brides-to-be. Ardense explains that of course brides want to look their absolute best on their special day, but also beyond. Traditionally, brides have spent thousands on a dream dress, shoes and hair, but now they are turning their attention to their skin.

The most popular treatments for brides at Flawless are treatments which address problems with skin texture and colour, such as peels, microdermabrasion, Dermapen skin needling and Fraxel skin resurfacing. These treatments, combined with the traditional injectables to deal with wrinkles and volume loss, give the modern bride a complete facial rejuvenation.

While for many the thought of cosmetic skin peels may conjure up images of Sex and the City’s Samantha left literally red-faced for an important event, modern skin peels are safe, painless and leave skin looking fresh and radiant. Cosmetic peels are used to treat congested skin, acne, uneven skin tone, pigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles. Taking only 20 minutes to perform, these light cosmetic peels do not require anaesthetic, unlike heavier traditional chemical peels, meaning less recovery time for busy brides to be.

For a more subtle facial treatment, microdermabrasion offers a light exfoliation technique that rejuvenates and deep cleans the skin by using a device which is similar to a vacuum cleaner to remove the outer layer of the skin, known as the stratum corneum. Used to treat skin concerns such as acne, fine lines and wrinkles, enlarged pores, blackheads Words: Genevieve Le Hunt and whiteheads, microdermabrasion involves little to no discomfort and the only side effect is a few hours of slightfacial redness.

New cosmetic development Dermapen® is the perfect treatment for unwanted wrinkles and scarring, encouraging and increase in natural collagen and elastin deposits. The procedure involves the use of the Dermapen® needle device, creating multiple pin holes in the epidermis and dermis. These injuries cause localised damage and bleeding which will lead to increased collagen and elastin deposition.

For a full face rejuvenation treatment, Fraxel Skin Resurfacing laser treatment offers a safe, non-ablative laser skin procedure that resurfaces damaged skin and uncovers youthful skin. Fraxel® laser systems use patented fractional technology to treat microscopic volumes of skin with each unique pulse, leaving the surrounding area intact for faster healing compared with traditional CO2 laser resurfacing. After a course of these treatments, brides can expect improved skin tone and texture, a reduction in wrinkles around the eyes and improved appearance of pigmentation, as well as any scarring.

Common concerns that Ardense encounters at his clinic are women worried about looking unnatural. The clients at Flawless want to look like a more beautiful, glowing version of themselves, not like a contestant from Bridalplasty. “Other common concerns are downtime and possible side effects post-treatment, ” says Ardense. Fortunately, these non-surgical cosmetic procedures come with low-risk and low-recovery periods.

But what about the boys? Whilst the number of grooms undertaking similar cosmetic procedures is lower than that of bridal clients, there is a steady increase in males wanting to look their best of their big day too. “We are seeing more and more grooms take an interest in their facial appearance, thus electing to have treatments” says Ardense. Popular treatments for the groom include anti-wrinkle injections, skin resurfacing and laser hair removal, all of which can be combined with treatments for the bride in Flawless Skin Rejuvenation Clinic’s amazing wedding packages.

Achieving that coveted natural glow shouldn’t be a stressful experience. As many of these procedures show the best results after multiple treatments, starting your treatments at the same time you begin your wedding planning is ideal.
