Sydney has a number of beautiful churches that would make the perfect venue for your wedding ceremony. Besides the religious aspect, the churches are stunning and add a vintage, old-fashioned or traditional element to your wedding. There's also lots of great photography opportunities with the gorgeous stained glass, high ceilings, old sandstone and bright lights. Here are our top five picks for the most beautiful churches in Sydney.

St Mary's Cathedral

Located in the heart of Sydney's CBD, the venue is as grand as it gets. There are strict rules and considerations you need to make, as well as having to book the venue at least 6 months in advance, but as they say, the best don't come easy. The exterior is absolutely stunning, with tall spires, old stone, intricate detailing and a traditional feel and look. Inside, the light shines through the stained glass through the long rows of pews. Find out more on their website.

St Thomas Anglican Church

Gorgeous interiors, beautiful sandstone exteriors and located in North Sydney - close to the North Shore and Sydney city. The dark pews and red carpet, combined with the high ceilings and light sandstone give the church a very old-fashioned feel. The church is highly recommended, as is the celebrant, Revd. Richard James. For more info, visit their website.

St. Andrews Cathedral

St. Andrew's Cathedral in Sydney is a popular choice for weddings. The large interior is stunning, especially when decorated with lights, candles and flowers. The exquisite architecture, intricate patterned walls and gorgeous stained glasswork make it a wonderful ceremony venue. Their website has more information on weddings at the cathedral.

Mary MacKillop Memorial Chapel

Located in North Sydney, the Mary MacKillop Memorial Church is a great location for a wedding. The dark and light coloured exterior looks stunning in real life, as well as the delicate stone work. The surrounding oak trees give it a beautiful background as well, perfect for photos. Visit their website for more details.

St Peter Chanel Catholic Church

Built in 1890, this small but gorgeous church has beautiful architecture, a picturesque surrounding and an intimate feel which makes it an ideal location for a wedding. Located in Hunters Hill, it's iconic for ceremonies and is central to some of the major photography locations in Sydney. This website has more information on the church.
